Traveling More: Could We Afford It?

There’s a big secret most people who travel extensively don’t often talk about with those who don’t –

Where does the money come from?

When our kids were babies and we always felt like there was way too much month left at the end of the money, we would dream about traveling together but immediately feel defeated.

Until we learned that one secret all travelers know – If you’re fortunate enough to live in a first-world situation and earn more than just a living wage,

The money you need to travel already exists. You just have to move it.

How do you move money when you don’t have enough money to move anywhere except to pay bills and pad the pocket of the grocery store owner?

It’s all about choices – simple ones.

Before you roll your eyes and slam your laptop, here are a few examples:

Big house or small one?

  • $1,000+/month opened up for adventures

One car or two?

  • $400+/month opened up for adventures

New car/truck or used?

  • $200+/month opened up for adventures

Private school or homeschool?

  • Heaps of money opened up for adventures

Buy books or go to the library?

  • Heaps of money opened up for adventures

Restaurant or dinner at home?

  • Heaps of money opened up for adventures

Pay for homeschool classes or use free resources?

  • Heaps of money opened up for adventures

It sounds too simple to be true, but I can honestly tell you that it’s not.

The money you need to travel already exists. You just have to move it.

That’s it – that’s all we did to start traveling more. And once we took that first step, it was addictive, so we did it again and again and again, and before we knew it we were taking the big leap to travel full-time.

Could you afford to travel more with your family? Absolutely.

You may not like what you have to sacrifice to do it, but if you’re okay with sharing an older car, living in tight quarters, wearing the same clothes year after year, visiting libraries, and eating dinner at home most nights, it’s possible – very possible.

And the rewards are exponential.
