If You're Over It All Right Now

I’m feeling it too. Over it all in a big way. Like a “I really want to write a happy email about Indie Bookstore Day today, but I don’t feel extremely happy and I just can’t fake it” kind of way.

Some people call it spring fever ~ this insatiable longing to stop everything and roll around in the grass for a while. Or at the very least stop caring about adult things for a few days and sit in a hammock and read a good book or twelve. Others call it laziness, ennui, or being just plain spoiled.

Whatever it is, I’m there today.

Here.

Creating anyway, but truly over all the racing.

The striving.

The reaching.

The stretching.

The comparing.

Over it all.

I’m not sure why this feeling has been so intense this week, except lately I’ve been trying a lot of things that don’t work, slogging through projects that never seem to end, texting friends too busy to text back, reading books that make me feel like my life isn’t as fun as I want it to be.

I’ve also been encountering beautiful women on Instagram with 50k+ followers overnight while watching my own account lose 3 followers every single time I post a photo (which yes, seems like a strange thing to notice and a shallow thing to care about, but here I am).

Also, I’m past ready for spring but it’s been too cold where I live to enjoy it, and my response has been grumpiness.

My advice to myself?

Get quiet.

Take a break.

Go for a walk.

Make something.

Have a coffee chat with someone you love.

Get back in touch with what really matters.

Repeat.

It’s working. I’m gaining perspective. I’m choosing my own wellness and the wellness of my family over the race to do or be that great something or someone. I’m learning, always learning.

What about you?

What helps you when ennui knocks at your door? I hope you can make time to do that thing today.

Whatever’s on your heart this morning, whoever has or hasn’t texted you back, unfollowed you on social media, or told you to bite their toe, at least now you know there’s one person right here with you, cheering for things to get better in your world.

Always.

By the way, tomorrow really is Independent Bookstore Day in the US.

And if there’s anything that can lift the spirits of a woman, it’s a bookish party with authors, live music, cupcakes, scavenger hunts, kids events, art tables, readings, barbecues, contests, and exclusive books and literary items you can only get on that day (*location dependent). Since you know I’m all about indie bookshops of all shapes and sizes, I thought I would share a little bit about Indie Bookstore Day with the links below.

I hope you find the cutest bookshop to celebrate with tomorrow—and I hope it lifts your spirit all the way up.

Sending love your way,

Celeste

💛

P.S. I’m hosting my next women’s retreat on October 25-28 where we’ll be hiking, e-biking, and watercolor painting outdoors. Details are live at wellandwanderretreat.com. Hope to see you over there!
